The Basics Of Inkjet Printers

Computers use inkjet printers to create printed work executed by command by contact of tiny ink droplets on paper. It is the most widely use printer and comes in a variation of sizes with a range of prices for whichever work its intended for. It has been around for a long time and its performing ability has been made better making the purchasers range even wider.

There are two forms of technology employed on this printer. There is continuous inkjet which use the idea of droplets that a charged being introduced to an electrostatic field at high velocity most amount is recycled thereby using a small amount in printing. It is quite fast in printing hence getting rid of slow printing.

A second technology is known as drop on demand and is two subtypes, the first being thermal and the second piezoelectric. Thermal technology applies a current pulse that is passed through a heating source thereby changing the ink into a vapor bubble of ink, this cause pressure to increase pushing a droplet of ink onto the paper. The ink is water soluble therefore forming bubbles of vapor easily. This technology is quite different from the one behind thermal printers.

Piezoelectric makes use of a piezoelectric material and is also different from the one which employs use of a heating source. This increases the chances of use of various ink types as they do not need to be volatile.

Inkjet inks are usually aqueous and are cheap to manufacture though difficult to control on media surface. Aqueous inks are used mainly with thermal heads as they need water to perform. There are different types of inks, solvent inks, hard solvent inks, mild solvent inks, UV curable inks and dye sublimation inks. As expected their entire outcome are varied in both color quality and durability.

There are two main types of inkjet head. First is the fixed type which comes built into the printer and is expected to last the life of the printer replacement is expensive and for some it might require replacement of the printer itself. Second type is a disposable head which is part of replaceable cartridge. This means if a print head gets damaged replacing it will not be difficult in fact it is just like refilling an exhausted ink cartridge.

Cleaning is required when ink dries up clogging the nozzles of the print head. Some printers have a manual cleaning mode so the operator can clean it manually. When a nozzle is clogged it can also be soaked in a little amount of water so it can unclog.

As compared to earlier types of printers, inkjet printers do not make as much noise and they print better detail. In comparison to more expensive types of printers, they take short warm up time, its printing costs as per page are cheaper in comparison other than with laser printers. It disadvantages that is expensive ink and cartridge has been sorted out by third party manufacturers.
